Guwahati :<\/strong> The family members of Falu <\/span>Das, who was a declared as foreigner and lodged in a detention<\/span>
\ncamp, accepted his body after four days of his and cremation <\/span>took place late last night in presence of the local MLA and <\/span>senior officials of the government.<\/span>After marathon negotiation by the administration and the <\/span>Barkhentry MLA Narayan Deka, the family members accepted the <\/span>body of the “declared foreigner” Falu Das without any <\/span>condition.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The family finally accepted the body of Das and did not<\/span>hold on to their pre-conditions. It was cremated at Chatemari <\/span>village under Mukalmua police station last night,” Nalbari<\/span>
\nDeputy Commissioner Bhartat Bhushan Devchoudhury said. <\/span>Deka, a magistrate from the Nalbari district <\/span>administration and other officials also <\/span>attended the funeral. <\/span>Falu Das (70) was admitted to Guwahati Medical College and <\/span>Hospital on October 13 as his health condition deteriorated at <\/span>the Goalpara determination camp, where he was staying since <\/span>2017 after he was declared a foreigner. He died on October 24. <\/span>The family members initially refused to accept Das’ body <\/span>saying that their demands have to be heard to declare the<\/span>
\ndeceased an Indian national. <\/span><\/p>\n

The wife and two sons of Das were adamant not to receive<\/span>
\nthe body because das was a “foreigner”. <\/span>They put forward two major conditions before accepting <\/span>his bodythat the all members of Falu Das be included in the <\/span>National Register of Citizens (NRC) without any process and no <\/span>member would be sent to the detention camp in future. <\/span>The government refused to accept the demands saying these <\/span>were legal matters. <\/span>Earlier this month, family members of Dulal Chandra Paul,<\/span>
\nwho was in a detention camp after being declared as foreigner, <\/span>too refused to receive his body.<\/span>After Assam ministers Parimal Suklabaidya and Ranjit <\/span>Dutta met the family and assured to provide necessary legal<\/span>
\naid for getting Paul to be declared an Indian, his cremation <\/span>was done.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
