The arrests were made during a joint operation by a team from Goreswar Police Station and Meghalaya Police.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The four arrested have been identified as Sukram Boro of No. 3 Jalthengpar near Goreswar, Karan Chundi of Oubari, Nitu Das of Uparkhuti and Babu Basumatary of Bangalipara.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The operation was led by the officer-in-charge of Goreswar Police Station, Hitesh Basumatary, in coordination with Meghalaya Police.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Police recovered two Yamaha motorcycles bearing registration numbers AS-01-FV-4193 and AS-27-F-1263.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_157664\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-157664\" style=\"width: 1083px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-157664\" src=\"https:\/\/assamtimespost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/mega.avif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1083\" height=\"551\" title=\"\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-157664\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #800080\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Assam Police Arrest Four in Meghalaya, Recover Two Stolen Bikes<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">According to investigators, the motorcycles were allegedly stolen a few days earlier from the Pukhuripar areas of Suklai and Mohoripara under Goreswar. The accused were reportedly taking the bikes toward Meghalaya with the alleged intention of smuggling them across the border for sale in Bangladesh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Authorities suspect the four may be connected to an organised vehicle-theft network operating in Assam that transports stolen motorcycles through Meghalaya for onward smuggling. A case has been registered at Goreswar Police Station under Case No. 59\/26, and the four are being questioned as part of the probe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Police said they are also investigating the possible involvement of other members of the suspected network and are working to identify persons involved in the theft, transportation and cross-border disposal of stolen vehicles.
