A woman weaver in Khowang, Dibrugarh district, has handwoven a striking gamosa as a tribute to the late Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg, incorporating lyrics from nine of his best-known songs and nine of his memorable quotes into the traditional cloth. The piece, created by Dalimi Lahon Gogoi of Katakipukhuri Ahom Gaon, measures more than 25 feet and took nearly five months to complete; she began work on it about a month after Garg\u2019s passing.<\/span><\/p>\n Woven on a traditional loom, the gamosa features lines from nine iconic songs \u2014 including Mayabini, Momor Sakiti Jole, Diya Ghurai Diya, Sapon Rongor Tikha Tumi, Roi Roi Binale and Andha Akash \u2014 alongside nine inspirational quotes associated with the singer. The lyrics and messages are integrated into floral motifs across the fabric, marrying text and traditional design.<\/span><\/p>\n Dalimi said the work is borne of deep admiration. \u201cThis tribute reflects my wish to keep Zubeen Garg\u2019s legacy alive through Assam\u2019s handloom heritage,\u201d she told local residents, explaining that the intricate weaving was intended as a lasting homage to the singer.<\/span><\/p>\n The gamosa has drawn appreciation from neighbours and visitors, who describe it as a fitting memorial that combines Assam\u2019s rich weaving tradition with the cultural legacy of one of its most influential musicians.
