T<\/span>he alarming rise in drug addiction among the youth across the nation has prompted the government to take decisive action. In a bid to address this pressing issue, the central government has initiated a nationwide campaign aimed at eradicating substance abuse. As part of this initiative, a significant workshop was held today in Diphu, focusing on equipping journalists from electronic and print media with vital information and strategies to combat drug addiction.<\/span><\/p>\n

Government’s Urgent Fight Against Rising Drug Addiction Among Youth: Empowering the Next Generation<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The workshop, organized by the Social Justice and Empowerment Department in collaboration with district administration, saw participation from over a hundred journalists. The event was officially inaugurated by Tuliram Ronghang, the Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. In his opening remarks, Ronghang highlighted the devastating impact of drug abuse on the younger generation and urged journalists to take a proactive role in building a drug-free Karbi Anglong.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"During the workshop, Sanjeev Kumar Saikia, the Superintendent of Police for Karbi Anglong, provided an in-depth analysis of the drug trafficking routes that traverse through the Golden Triangle, linking Manipur, Nagaland, and Karbi Anglong. He detailed the quantity of drugs seized by the police over the past year and the number of arrests made in connection with drug-related offenses. Saikia also explained how drug dealers lure young individuals into addiction and discussed the legal ramifications for those involved in the drug trade.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Bhaskarjyoti Manta the Additional Secretary of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department, set the stage for the discussions by outlining the workshop’s objectives. He emphasized the need for collaboration among journalists, law enforcement, and community leaders to address the drug crisis effectively. Retired District Sessions Judge Dr. Thaneshwar Kalita provided a comprehensive overview of the legal consequences for individuals involved in drug trafficking and the support systems available for those struggling with addiction.<\/span><\/p>\n

State Coordinator Dr. Sandip Hanse elaborated on the measures being taken by both the central and state governments to create a drug-free India, detailing specific initiatives aimed at prevention and rehabilitation. The discussions included a Q&A session, where Saikia and Kalita addressed various queries from journalists, fostering a collaborative spirit in the fight against drug abuse.<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, a separate meeting focused on educating students from various schools in Diphu about the dangers of drug abuse, further emphasizing the government’s commitment to fostering a drug-free environment. This initiative by the Social Justice and Empowerment Department reflects a comprehensive approach to tackling substance abuse and supporting the youth in making healthier choices.<\/span><\/p>\n
