A high-level meeting of Assam Police officials is underway at the Police Guest House in Sivasagar to address the recent bomb threats across the state. The meeting includes Special Director General of Police (SDGP) Harmeet Singh, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Partha Sarathi Mahanta, and several district Superintendents of Police. Their primary focus is the ongoing investigation into these threats.<\/span><\/p>\n In parallel, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has retrieved critical CCTV footage from Panbazar and Gandhi Mandap in Guwahati. These recordings, sourced from near Hotel Prag Continental and the road leading to Gandhi Mandap, are expected to be instrumental in identifying the perpetrators. Forensic analysis of these clips, particularly ones from the night before the incidents on August 15, is in progress.<\/span><\/p>\n Meanwhile, Lakhimpur Police detained a minor on Thursday night for questioning in connection with the discovery of “IED-like devices” in the district. Although no formal arrests have been made, the detention is a significant development. Lakhimpur Superintendent of Police Aparna N reported the boy\u2019s involvement in planting one of the suspicious devices.<\/span><\/p>\n In a related operation, authorities searched the Panitola residence of Anup Chetia, former general secretary of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), who had signed a peace agreement with the government last year. Chetia informed police about potential bomb threats after receiving information from ULFA (I) chief Paresh Barua.<\/span><\/p>\n These actions follow a bomb threat issued by ULFA-I on August 15, prompting heightened security across Assam.
