I<\/span>n a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Assam Rifles<\/a> seized contraband items, including cannabis and heroin, valued at Rs 52.88 crore from the states of Tripura, Assam, and Manipur during 2023-24. According to a senior official, these operations were successfully executed in close coordination with state agencies, leading to the confiscation of substantial quantities of illegal substances.<\/span><\/p>\n In Tripura alone, 6,244.72 kg of cannabis and heroin worth Rs 30.29 crore were seized. Assam accounted for 1,026.80 kg, valued at Rs 18.49 crore, while 487.087 grams worth Rs 4.10 crore were intercepted in Manipur. The official noted that this year\u2019s seizures were double those of the previous year, attributing the success to improved coordination with other security agencies.<\/span><\/p>\n The operations also targeted cannabis plantations, resulting in the destruction of plants worth crores of rupees, aligning with the Chief Minister\u2019s vision of making Tripura “Nasha Mukt” (drug-free). This initiative reflects a concerted effort to curb drug abuse and its associated socio-economic challenges in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n In addition to enforcement actions, the Assam Rifles organized 55 awareness lectures on drug abuse, engaging approximately 1,200 locals across various locations. These sessions aimed to educate the community on the detrimental social, mental, physical, and psychological effects of substance abuse.
