Guwahati :<\/strong>\u00a0 2019 (CAA), Assam police has urged the people to be cautious while posting or sharing unverified\/provocative information on Social Media to ensure peace and harmony prevails in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n

Assam Police tweeted: “We request citizens to be cautious while posting or sharing unverified\/provocative information on Social Media. We are looking forward to your continued support in ensuring peace & harmony in the State”. <\/span>
\nAssam Police Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) G P Singh also tweeted: “Friends, the mobile internet services are being restored to enable people to go about life in a normal manner. Please be wise in writing, forwarding posts on various social media platforms. Let\u2019s build a stronger Assam together. Looking forward to continued support. @assampolice”<\/span><\/p>\n

Making similar appeals to the public on responsible use of the social media, Police Joint Commissioner of Guwahati Devraj Upadhyaya talking to the media warned, \u201caction will be taken as per law against those violating peace and harmony. A Whatsapp number will be started today for people to make reports there about any posts in the social media that may breach peace in the state as well as complaints related to hate or fake messages.” <\/span><\/p>\n

Stating 99 cases have been registered in various police stations in Guwahati so far, Upadhyaya said 112 people have been arrested so far on charges of rioting, vandalism, arson and attempt to murder. <\/span><\/p>\n

After the Rajya Sabha passed the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill on December 11 night, the state erupted in violent protests in which agitators engaged in pitch battle in almost every major city or town forcing the administration to impose curfew.<\/span>
\nSeveral towns and cities were placed under indefinite curfew, including Guwahati, the epicentre of protests, besides Dibrugarh, Tezpur and Dhekiajuli. Night curfew was imposed in Jorhat, Golaghat, Tinsukia and Charaideo districts.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the situation becoming normal, the curfew has been lifted from several cities and relaxed in the rest, while the suspended mobile internet services since December 11 was restored from this morning following the Gauhati High Court Thursday directing Assam government to restore at 5 pm yesterday. <\/span>The broadband services were restored earlier on December 18 though mobile internet data services resumed from today.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
