On Sunday, the flood situation in Assam deteriorated, with over 53,000 people being stranded in six districts. Dhemaji had around 24,000 affected residents, while Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, and Dibrugarh districts had 12,000, 8,500, and 7,500 individuals respectively who were unable to leave.<\/span><\/p>\n

Devastating Floods Worsen in Assam:<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Central Water Commission (CWC) attributed the increasing water levels of the Brahmaputra river and its tributaries to continuous rainfall, resulting in the flooding of nearby areas. Several locations in the state, including Dhubri, Neamatighat, Road Bridge, the Dikhou River, and Golakganj, have reported the river flowing above the danger mark.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) mentioned that the flood has impacted 120 villages in 11 revenue circles and submerged approximately 3000 hectares of crop area in the affected districts. Specifically in Sonitpur district, 38 villages are currently underwater, and the floodwaters have covered 426.50 hectares of crop area.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, 14 people have lost their lives in Assam due to the floods this year. Additionally, in the past 24 hours, the floodwaters have caused damage to an embankment, four roads, Anganwadi centres, and irrigation canals in various parts of the state.<\/span><\/p>\n
