ASSAM TIMES POST,Karimganj: In the wake of damage and havoc wave of flood in Barak valley Region Chief Minister of Assam Sri Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday held a review meeting with all the heads of the departments and concerned officials at the conference hall of D.C’s office Cachar and took stock of the prevailing flood situation in the Barak valley region.Prior to the meeting ,C.M Sri Sonowal made aerial survey of the flood hit areas of the three districts of Barak valley and visited flood relief camps located at NNTC RME School and Govt.Boys H.S School in Karimganj District and interacted with inmates of the relief camps. Sri Sarbananda Sonowal directed the concerned officials to ensure rescue and rehabilitation of the flood victims.
He also emphasized on the post flood outbreaks of various infectious disease and instructed the health officials to conduct medical camps on regular basis.He asked the officials to work round the clock to provide relief items including medicines,pure drinking water flood and other relief materials to the flood affected people.
Expressing his concern over the havoc caused by the recent wave of flood Sri Sarbananda Sonowal directed the officials to reach out to the flood victims and take every step possible with utmost dedication and sincerity to prevent loss of human lives and livestock .He also laid emphasis on strengthening the vulnerable embankments in the entire region so that damage due to flood can be minimised.
Cachar Deputy commissioner Smt Laya Madduri and Hailakandi Deputy commissioner Smt Keerthi Jalli apprised Sri Sarbananda Sonowal about the measures being undertaken to tackle the flood in respective districts.
In Cachar District ,a total of 6 relief camps have been set up.
As per report from DDMA Cachar 16,231 numbers of people have been affected and 432 hectares of crop area have been damaged due to current wave of flood while no loss of human life is reported so far.
In his day long visit to Barak valley,Sri Sarbananda Sonowal was also accompanied by Minister of Forest and Environment Sri Parimal sukhlabadya ,MLAs Ramendra Narayan kalita ,Nomal Momin and Bimal Bora.
The review meeting was also attended by the DIG Southern range Sri P.K kalita, Commissioner of Barak valley region Sri Anwaruddin Choudhury ,Cachar S.P Sri Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta ,S.P Hailakandi Sri Manish Misra and MLAs of Cachar and Hailakandi districts Sri Dilip Paul,Sri Amarchand jain,Sri Aminul Islam laskar, Sri Kishore Nath,Sri Mihir kanti Shome were also present in the review meeting held today.
