On September 20, the Dibrugarh sessions judge’s court extended the police custody of fraudster Bishal Phukan by four days, following a police request for a seven-day extension to further investigate his fraudulent activities.
The move comes amid rising concerns over an online investment scam linked to Phukan. In response, authorities have established a seven-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to delve deeper into the case. This team will be spearheaded by Sanjukta Parashar, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of CID Assam, who is well-regarded for her expertise in complex investigations.
The SIT will focus specifically on the involvement of Dibrugarh-based social media influencer Sumi Borah, who is alleged to have promoted the fraudulent investment scheme.
The investigation team includes prominent officials such as Dibrugarh Assistant Superintendent of Police (Crime) Sizal Agarwal, along with three CID inspectors and two police superintendents.
