Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are set to initiate the second phase of border negotiations next month, aiming to resolve longstanding disputes. Speaking to reporters, Sangma disclosed that he had an informal discussion with Sarma about three weeks to a month ago, during which they decided to hold the next round of talks in October.
The preliminary discussions for the second phase of the inter-state boundary talks occurred on May 23, 2023. The talks address six contentious areas: Langpih, Borduar, Nongwah-Mawtamur, Deshdoomreah, Block-I & Block-II, and Khanduli-Psiar.
Meghalaya’s Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong announced in July that Chief Minister Sangma will soon organize a meeting with Assam’s CM Sarma to formulate a strategic plan for the border discussions. In parallel, inspections of the disputed areas are still in progress, as per Tynsong.
