The Tour Operators Association of Assam (TOAA) lauded the government’s initiative to develop 5-star hotels near Kaziranga National Park, led by renowned entities like the Taj Group and Hyatt. This move is anticipated to significantly boost Assam’s tourism sector and create substantial employment for the local populace.
The construction and operation of these luxury hotels are projected to generate over 200 direct jobs, offering stable employment and skill development opportunities for local youth. The presence of global brands will provide training and career growth prospects, empowering the community with essential skills and experiences. Moreover, it is expected to attract high-end tourists, international travelers, and prestigious conferences to the region.
TOAA emphasized that the local economy would benefit from increased demand for goods and services from suppliers, transport services, and artisans. Additionally, the influx of tourists will spur the growth of related services such as guided tours, local crafts, and culinary experiences, providing a comprehensive boost to the regional economy.
Assam stands to enhance its reputation as a prime tourism hub, drawing international attention to its natural and cultural treasures. However, TOAA also highlighted the need to improve wayside amenities along the 200 km stretch between Guwahati and Kaziranga. The lack of suitable facilities poses challenges, particularly for high-end and female tourists.
The association urged the Taj Group and Hyatt to establish at least two modern wayside amenities along this route. These pay-and-use facilities, managed locally and equipped with modern technology, would include tea shops, eateries, memento shops, information counters, first aid services, and baby care rooms, ensuring high standards of hygiene and security through CCTV monitoring.
Additionally, the development plans include a modern 30-bed hospital with advanced facilities, catering to both the local community and tourists, reducing the need for travel to distant cities for medical services. This hospital will also support the Forest Department’s conservation efforts.
The initiatives promise to foster sustainable development and community-based tourism (CBT) while preserving the natural beauty and biodiversity of Kaziranga for future generations.
